Black Hearted Brother

This is a collaborative effort brought together this year by band leader Neil Halstead (Slowdive, Mojave 3).  It includes Nick Holton (Opelent Oog) and Mark Van Hoen (Seefeel).  The debut album, released this past Oct., is called STARS ARE OUR HOME.

Magnet School

The Austin band released this great single over the summer.  Unfortunately, I missed it until now.

Sam Phillips

Sam Phillips (born Leslie Phillips) released her ninth album this past Aug.  For some unknown reason, I didn’t play it a lot over the summer.  I’m making up for that now.   “When I’m Alone” has become a fave song off the LP.

There’s also an official video for “Going.”

The Chambermaids

The Minneapolis band have released one of the best shoegaze albums I’ve heard in a long time.  This is the lead track.

New Model Army

Still playing BETWEEN DOG AND WOLF (their twelfth album) an awful lot.  The Bradford, U.K. band may have released my favorite record of the year.  Here’s another song that is surfacing as a standout.

Custom Fit

The Santa Cruz Oi! band released its S/T debut album Oct. 29.  This is a video for “Spontaneous Combustion.”

Today, James Shaw and Emily Haines of Metric released a video of themselves covering John Lennon’s “Mother” (from SHAVED FISH, 1975) at The Magic Shop Recording Studio in New York City.
