Elvis Costello

Listening to John Prine’s “Hello In There” provoked me to play another song about aging – Elvis Costello’s “Veronica” from Spike (1989).  It was co-written by Paul McCartney (who also plays the Höfner bass for it).

Missing from this posting of the video is Costello’s closing monologue.  “Sometimes, she’d just sit there and she wouldn’t say anything. I wouldn’t say anything.  And you could try to work out what was going on in here head.  But I think it’s something we don’t understand; not yet anyway.”

This first new music from the Femmes in 17 years is a 12-inch vinyl EP called HAPPY NEW YEAR NEXT YEAR.  It is a special release for this year’s Record Store Day (April 18).  In addition to the title-track, it contains three other new songs (“Good At/For Nothing,” “Fast Horses,” and “Love Love Love Love Love”).  We can now stream that last song.
