Elvis Costello

Listening to John Prine’s “Hello In There” provoked me to play another song about aging – Elvis Costello’s “Veronica” from Spike (1989).  It was co-written by Paul McCartney (who also plays the Höfner bass for it).

Missing from this posting of the video is Costello’s closing monologue.  “Sometimes, she’d just sit there and she wouldn’t say anything. I wouldn’t say anything.  And you could try to work out what was going on in here head.  But I think it’s something we don’t understand; not yet anyway.”
